Position Summary

The New Product Development (NPD) Engineer is an essential part of the TerraSource Team for developing new products and services that will sustain our leadership position into the future. Reporting through the Marketing and Innovation team, the NPD Engineer will be accountable for research, conceptual design, testing and the launch of new products that fulfills our customer's strategic and/or operational needs. This position will have responsible for our NPD process and must work closely with engineering, marketing, sales, operations, and finance in pursuit of their goals.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:


  • Develop, document and manage NPD process for rapid and long term new product deployment.
  • Perform market research, which will include site visits to understand market and customer requirements, and then initiate innovative product development ideas, concepts and designs.
  • Prepare comprehensive project plan and design concepts with technical objectives which will include detailed cost estimates.
  • Lead, participate in or support the concept, planning, design, manufacturing and launch stages of major new products or product enhancements.
  • Participate and provide input to engineering in the detailed engineering design to ensure the product maintains the fit, form and function needed to penetrate the target market/customers
  • Prepare product test plans, provide oversite of testing and data gathering to determine if product meets NPD requirements for the target market.
  • Approve prototypes of new designs, conduct performance analysis of prototypes and ensure assemblage of products follow company's quality parameters.
  • Provide monthly updates on NPD progress.
  • Document records, information and communication for all projects and associated activities in the company's Sales Force Database.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.


Bachelor's degree Mechanical Engineering (Required)



  • 5-7 Years of New Product Development or Innovation experience required in complex machinery or process equipment. A proven track record of successful new product launches within an industrial setting. Strong project management experience required.
  • Communication Skills: Advanced ability to assess complex situations and communicate clearly both internally and externally. Ability to interpret and write reports, procedures, business correspondence and effectively present to and respond to questions in front of groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Plan and perform a wide variety of duties requiring general knowledge of company policies and procedures applicable within area of responsibilities, and including their application to cases not previously covered.  Requires considerable judgment to work independently toward general results, devising methods, modifying or adapting standard procedures to meet different conditions, making decisions based on precedent and company policies.
  • Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with 2D CAD and 3D Modeling software (preferably Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor)
  • Experience designing machinery and accessories for industrial process equipment.
  • Understanding of mechanical equipment and processes
  • Sales & Marketing or Operations experience a plus
  • Demonstrated PC skills, including: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.) is required.
  • Ability to utilize an enterprise document management system (such as Autodesk Vault) and ERP system (such as JD Edwards) would be a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. passport required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and be insurable under company's motor vehicle insurance policy
