Position Summary

The Market Development Manager will play a key role in the future direction of the organization and development of specific markets where TerraSource is underpenetrated. Reporting through the Marketing and Innovation team, the MDM will be accountable for identifying, targeting and developing sales within the assigned market. This position will have responsibility for our growing the assigned market and must work closely with engineering, marketing, sales, operations, and finance in pursuit of their goals.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Development and implementation of a business plan for the assigned market, which includes identification of key prospects and segmentation for how to serve each segment.
  • Perform market research, which will include site visits to understand market and customer requirements, and then initiate action plans accordingly to improve and focus our efforts.
  • Identify product gaps and work with new product development (NPD) to drive the development of those products to fill the gaps.
  • Work with Regional Sales Managers and local manufacturers' representatives once a project has been identified, allowing them to lead the sales process, while remaining involved to drive the project to close.
  • Track/Report overall progress of sales team through weekly, quarterly & annual sales plans. Weekly implementation of Project Tracking/ Forecasting via the CRM System.

 

  • Excel in planning, forecasting, setting objectives and determining courses of action. Continually assess sales activity in assigned market area for in-depth understanding of trends and competitive activity.

 

  • Proactively work cross functionally with other TSG support functions to effectively organize, assemble and arrange resources to meet goals, including Contracts, Marketing, Finance, Customer Service, Engineering, etc.

 

  • Meet with key customers to develop relationships, understand their needs and proactively address potential issues.

 

  • Develop, train, and implement pricing guidance and authority on strategy and deal structuring, etc.

 

  • Demonstrate presentation skills capable of detailing all Product Lines & Services in a fashion that delivers a specific product lines value proposition and/or TSG value proposition with maximum impact.

 

  • Identify performance improvement targets, track and measure changes for the overall improvement of the market.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education

Bachelor's degree Mechanical Engineering or Business Degree (Required)

Skills/Experience

 

  • 5-7 Years of market development experience required in complex machinery or process equipment in the sawmill/engineered wood industry. Third party representative or distribution management experience helpful.
  • Communication Skills: Advanced ability to assess complex situations and communicate clearly both internally and externally. Ability to interpret and write reports, procedures, business correspondence and effectively present to and respond to questions in front of groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Plan and perform a wide variety of duties requiring general knowledge of company policies and procedures applicable within area of responsibilities, and including their application to cases not previously covered.  Requires considerable judgment to work independently toward general results, devising methods, modifying or adapting standard procedures to meet different conditions, making decisions based on precedent and company policies.
  • Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical equipment and processes
  • Sales & Marketing experience required
  • Demonstrated PC skills, including: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.) is required. Experience with Salesforce CRM a plus.
  • Ability to utilize an enterprise document management system (Autodesk Vault) and ERP system (such as JD Edwards) would be a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. passport required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and be insurable under company's motor vehicle insurance policy

 

Travel

Employee must be able to travel 75% of the time.
