Accountant

Position Summary

The Accountant for TerraSource will be responsible for the daily accounting department activities with necessary technical knowledge to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, corporate policies and external audits. The successful candidate will be expected to enforce internal control for safeguarding of company assets while working with accounting department personnel. Additionally, they must have a strong cost accounting knowledge to keep division management informed with accurate information in decision making. The position will be responsible for improving department functions, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies. The ideal candidate will be working in the tactical business, but also demonstrate the desire and ability for driving change, identifying business needs, areas of improvement and objectives through research and data-backed decision making that will empower them to make recommendations on appropriate business initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Perform daily accounting functions in accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, commissions, Sales Tax and general accounting processes
  • Complete timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, helping ensure that all financial transactions are appropriately recorded in the general ledger
  • Complete journal entries and review journal entries prepared by other team members
  • Help prepare financial statements in accordance with accounting regulations and corporate guidelines
  • Perform analysis on all general ledger accounts and prepare and review monthly account reconciliations
  • Manage information requests for corporate financial reporting, corporate tax, internal and external audits
  • Adhere to, communicate and maintain standard processes, procedures and policies
  • Complete cost accounting functions, including product costing, inventory valuation and variance analysis
  • Participate in and support the annual budget and forecast update processes
  • Maintain confidentiality of personal, corporate and financial data.
  • Champion the development and implementation of consistent controls, policies and procedures and develop skills through cross training and supporting management positions.
  • Other duties and special assignments, as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education

Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university in accounting or finance, and a minimum of 2 years related accounting experience.

Skills & Software/System Experience:

  • Accounting and/or finance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a low volume high mix product portfolio manufacturing environment
  • ERP system experience - J.D. Edwards experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with little or no supervision
  • Skilled at Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced Excel user, with a strong understanding of databases, queries and reports

Skills/Experience

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, margins, markups, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Use of judgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of set-ups, operations and processes within the limitations of recognized or standard methods and procedures.

  • PC and keyboarding skills
  • Desire and ability to learn job specific software
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and be insurable under company's motor vehicle insurance policy
